A slope that keeps washing onto a parking lot, a lake bank that is creeping toward a walkway, a planter edge that has started to lean. These problems rarely fail all at once. They move a little each rainy season until a manager is dealing with a mess, a safety issue and a repair that costs more than it would have a year earlier.

Green Image is a retaining wall contractor for HOAs, condo associations and commercial properties. We build segmental block walls that hold grade, protect pavement and edges, and give planting beds a clean, permanent line.

Retaining Wall Contractor for Commercial Properties and HOAs

Segmental Retaining Walls for Commercial Properties

Segmental walls are built from interlocking concrete blocks stacked without mortar. They are the standard choice for commercial landscape walls because they handle small movement without cracking, can be repaired block by block, and come in finishes that fit an entrance as well as a service area.

  • Grade changes: holding back soil between a building pad and a lower lawn or parking area.
  • Parking edges: stopping soil and mulch from washing onto pavement at the edge of a lot.
  • Lake bank and grade walls: holding a bank in place where it meets a walkway or a structure.
  • Raised planters: defined beds at entrances, clubhouses and building fronts.

What Makes a Wall Last: Drainage Behind It

Most retaining walls that fail do so because of water, not weight. When rain soaks the soil behind a wall and has nowhere to go, the pressure on the back of the wall climbs. In South Florida, where heavy summer storms are routine, drainage behind the wall is not optional.

We build each wall on a compacted base, backfill behind the block with clean drainage stone, and run a perforated drain line at the base to carry water out. Filter fabric keeps soil from clogging the stone. Taller walls also use geogrid reinforcement layered into the backfill, per the wall manufacturer’s requirements or the design.

When a Wall Needs an Engineer

Some walls need an engineered design before anyone digs. That includes walls above a certain height, walls with a parking area, a driveway or a structure above them, and walls in a lake bank or other wet condition. Green Image does not engineer walls. When a wall calls for it, we say so up front, work with an engineer’s design, and coordinate any permitted work through licensed subcontractors. The board sees that requirement in the proposal, not as a surprise after approval.

How a Retaining Wall Contractor Should Hand You the Scope

  1. A walk of the area with you, including what is above and below the wall line.
  2. A written assessment with photos within 72 hours.
  3. A proposal that names the wall type, length, drainage detail and exclusions, including whether engineering or permits apply.
  4. Installation with the beds, irrigation and turf around the wall restored as part of the job.

Walls along water often pair with shoreline erosion control, and walls at grade changes often go with stormwater runoff work. See the full hardscape page for the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every retaining wall need an engineer?

No, but some do. Taller walls and walls carrying loads like parking, driveways or structures generally need an engineered design. We flag that in the assessment and build from the engineer’s design when it applies.

Often, yes. Segmental walls can be taken down and rebuilt in sections. We look for the cause first, usually drainage behind the wall, so the rebuild does not lean again.

Sometimes a wall is the right answer, and sometimes a living shoreline system is a better fit. We walk the bank and recommend the option that matches the cause of the erosion.

We restore the beds, irrigation and turf disturbed by the work as part of the same job, so you are not hiring another vendor to finish it.
