Seat walls around a fire pit, a retaining wall along a pool terrace, paver plazas outside a clubhouse. These spaces cost real money to build and they are used most in the evening. Without light, they are dark obstacles. With the wrong light, a post fixture sticks out of a clean stone cap and gets knocked over in a week.

Green Image installs and repairs hardscape lighting for associations, condos, office parks and retail centers in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade. Hardscape fixtures are low profile lights built into the stone, block or pavers themselves, so the light comes from the structure.

Hardscape Lighting for Pavers, Seat Walls and Retaining Walls

Paver, Seat Wall and Retaining Wall Lighting

Paver, seat wall and retaining wall lighting each uses a different fixture and placement:

  • Under cap lights: slim fixtures tucked under the overhang of a wall cap, casting light down the face of the wall onto the ground. Common on seat walls and retaining walls.
  • In paver lights: flush fixtures set into a paver field to mark edges, borders and plaza features.
  • Column lights: fixtures mounted in or on entry columns and pillars.
  • Wall face lights: small recessed fixtures in the face of a retaining wall.

When Hardscape Lighting Should Go In

The best time is during construction. Wire runs through the wall or under the base before the caps go on, and fixtures are sized to the block or stone used. Adding lights after the fact usually means lifting caps or pavers, which is possible but slower. If your property is planning a new terrace, entry wall or plaza, talk to us before the hardscape is built. Green Image builds retaining walls and paver walkways and can plan lighting into the same project.

How It Fits Into the Larger Hardscape Project

  1. Plan: lighting locations marked on the hardscape layout before work starts.
  2. Rough in: conduit and wire placed in the base and wall cores during construction.
  3. Set fixtures: lights installed as caps and pavers go down.
  4. Aim and test: a night visit to check every fixture and set controls.
  5. Document: every fixture logged by location with photos, so future repairs do not require guesswork.

That last step is Every Visit Proof applied to construction. Years later, when a fixture fails, the manager knows where the wire runs. For general contractors, we can work as the landscape and lighting subcontractor on the hardscape phase. See our main hardscape page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can hardscape lights be added to an existing seat wall?

Usually, yes. Caps are lifted, wire is routed and fixtures set underneath, then caps are reset. It takes more work than installing during construction, and the proposal states what is involved.

Fixtures made for paver installation are built for foot traffic. They are not meant for vehicle areas unless rated for it, and we choose fixtures based on where they are going.

They run on a timer or photocell like the rest of the landscape lighting system. Many properties put amenity hardscape lights on a zone that shuts off after the amenity closes.

Yes. Under cap and wall face fixtures work on retaining walls near water. Wire and connections are protected for wet conditions.
