Some areas of a commercial property are too large for path lights and too open for wall fixtures. A courtyard between buildings, a lawn by the clubhouse, a seating area under shade trees, the edge of a parking lot. Pole lights wash these spaces in flat, harsh light. Leaving them dark makes residents and tenants avoid them.

Green Image installs landscape downlights for associations, condos, office parks and retail centers across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade. Downlights mount high and point down, putting soft, even light on the ground with the fixture itself mostly out of sight.

How Tree Mounted Downlighting Works

Tree mounted downlighting for common areas places fixtures high in mature trees, aimed at the ground. Light filters through the branches and leaves a pattern of light and shadow on the lawn or hardscape below. It is often called moonlighting because the effect looks like moonlight through a canopy. Downlights can also mount under eaves, on pergolas and on building walls.

Best Uses on a Commercial Property

  • Courtyards and lawns: wide, soft coverage without a field of short fixtures.
  • Seating and gathering areas: enough light to use the space without glare.
  • Pool deck edges and cabanas: light from above that avoids shining into eyes.
  • Parking edges and walkways under trees: fills dark pockets that pole lights miss.
  • Pergolas and covered entries: fixtures mounted under the structure.

What We Watch for With Tree Mounts

  1. Tree health: fixtures are attached with hardware that allows for trunk growth, and we check mounts during service.
  2. Wire routing: wire runs along the trunk and is secured so it does not girdle the tree.
  3. Pruning conflicts: when trees are trimmed, crews must know where fixtures are. Our commercial tree trimming crews and lighting techs work from the same records.
  4. Storm season: mounts and wire are checked before hurricane season and after any storm.

Every Visit Proof on Lighting Service

Downlights are hard to check from the ground in daylight. After each lighting visit, the manager gets photos and notes on which fixtures were tested, adjusted or replaced. When the board asks if the courtyard lights were fixed, you have the answer. Downlights often work best paired with pathway lighting on the walks below. Frequently Asked Questions

Do tree mounted lights harm the tree?

Not when installed correctly. Mounting hardware is set to allow for growth, and wire is secured without wrapping the trunk. We check mounts during service visits.

Trimming crews need to know where fixtures and wire are. Because Green Image handles both tree care and lighting, crews work from the same property records.

Downlights supplement pole lighting, especially along tree lined edges where poles leave dark spots. Parking lot pole lighting is a separate electrical system and is not replaced by landscape lighting.

They are mounted high and are small, so they are hard to notice in daylight. The fixture finish is chosen to blend into bark or the structure it is mounted on.
